2-Wire vs 4-Wire vs 6-Wire Track Lighting: How to Choose
The circuit structure decides how much control you get from a single run. Here is the practical difference between single-circuit, three-circuit and six-conductor track.
Start with how many zones you need to control
One zone that switches and dims together points to 2-wire. Three groups on one run points to 4-wire. More than that — or a dedicated control channel — points to 6-wire.
What each structure means on site
2-wire is single phase, one switch and dimming group. 4-wire is three phases, three independently controlled circuits. 6-wire carries three phases plus extra conductors that bring a DALI control line onto the run.
Do not over-specify
A small shop rarely needs six conductors. Choosing the right structure is our job — tell us the space and the goal, and we will recommend the system and explain why.
